This is going to be our next project out here on the Omnist living farm. We’re going to attempt to build a chicken coop and an extremely long run so they can do some foraging and have room to run around. With the price of eggs already rising because of the bird flu, this was the most logical next step.

I got extremely lucky with my dumpster diving the other day! In one dumpster I found 12 sheets of ¾ heavy duty plywood and several 2x4s, 2x6s, and even a 12 foot long 2×12. A few days later I stopped at another dumpster where they are remodeling a restaurant and found about 80 2x4s anywhere from 4 to 10 feet long.

Now, for the hard part. Most of the 2x4s are full of nails, so I’m going to be spending a lot of time on Friday pulling them out. And then I’m going to build a couple of saw horses. I’ll make another post later when I build them (it’s actually quite easy I discovered) and then I’ll be making several posts on making the chicken coop and run. I think this is going to be fun!
