The chicken coop is getting close to being finished. I got the roof shingled yesterday, trying to beat the rain coming in tonight. It’s taken me a long time, (3rd week now) but that’s okay. I don’t have anything better to do since retiring after my second stroke.

The only thing left is to get some non-toxic paint, wire for the top parts of the walls, 6 hinges (for the main door and the nesting door) and two clasps, and then I’ll be ready to start working on the run.

It’s hard to believe every single bit of this didn’t cost me a dime aside from the screws and nails I bought to put it together. The wire, paint and hinges will cost, of course, but still. I saw one half the size of this for sale in a storage building lot and they wanted $1700. I have one twice as big and it’s currently sitting at a cost of $45.

Not bad. Not bad at all. I love dumpster diving. Heck, even my 17 y.o. son is starting to like it. He’s really loving how to learn how to build things by hand. He’s always coming up with new projects since we started doing it. He’ll be a pro at measuring, cutting, and splicing in no time.
Thanks for reading and have a great day!
