A couple of years ago, my wife’s mother got sick and suddenly needed 24/7 care. So instead of my wife driving back and forth from our house to their house several times a day (20 miles one way) we decided to let our house go, minimize, and move into a 30ft camper on the back side of their 5 acres.
It might not seem like much of a risk, but it sure felt like it to us. We had to put most of our things in storage and learn to live in a smaller space. It was tough at first, but now we love it! We’re learning how to make gardens. I have almost finished a chicken coop. Our dogs can run around free without fences. No loud neighbors or neighbors saying what others can and can’t do. It’s like…freedom was always right there, but we were too afraid to take the risk and do it. We’d always talked about it, but never did. It was the best thing we ever did.

And the best part? Our cost of living with electricity, food, and everything, is under $1000 a month.
